What to see

This building is a unique testimonial to the history of Florence, not only for its celebrated fresco with the oldest known view of the city but also because it was home to two ancient charities, the "Compagnia della Misericordia" and the "Compagnia del Bigallo". These were two of the numerous charities (including the Hospitals of the Innocenti, Santa Maria Nuova and San Giovanni di Dio) dedicated to providing assistance and shelter that played such an important role in the city's life from the 13th century on.
